How it all began

At fifteen, Remy came home from school, there were 3 blinded bottles of wine on the dining table with a tasting note sheet next to it and his name on it. That's where it all started. Typical case of "with the ladle. Years later when Moses could not reach the mountain it was decided to bring the mountain to Moses. First son Remy found an old factory hall of 1,500 m2 on the banks of the IJ in Amsterdam, then father Jos took an internship with a well-known Italian winemaker (Alois Lageder). The first 5,000 wines were bottled, labeled and corked in 2018 - and the rest is history.

So where do the grapes come from?

We work only with fruit from carefully selected partners throughout Europe. Farmers, families and entrepreneurs who care for their land, the plants, the harvest and their people. Over the years, our farmers have become part of the Chateau family. Together we determine a number of things: how to prune, how to take care of the land and when to harvest. After all, with the timing of the picking you determine the amount of sugars, acids and flavors and aromas the grape brings to the wine.

The choice of sustainability

As a modern company, sustainability is at the heart of all our choices. Transparency is essential here. Since 2023, we have been SKAL certified. This means that we can produce wines with the label 'organic'. As of 2024, we will therefore be marketing the first organic wines. Our goal is to be completely over by 2025. Our bottles have had new packaging for some time: lightweight eco-glass, recycled paper, corks with co2 negative emissions and light material to screw caps; sleeves we have never used. Our big yellow building is full of solar panels, so we run 100% on solar power.

Waste does not exist

In our production, we proudly apply the zero-waste principle, utilizing every scrap with a touch of creativity and collaboration. Together with Oedipus, we brew a unique beer from peels and pits, while The Stillery takes care of the leftovers to make a sophisticated grappa. Of course, we also create our own sparkling Piquette d'Amsterdam.

And what is left over, we give to the local pig farmer of Extraordinary Pigs in Amsterdam-North. In this way, we not only end our production in style, but also ensure that every element of our process contributes to a circular and flavorful future.
